Surgical treatment of endometriosis

Endometriosis can be treated either medically or surgically. In medical treatment, the hormones supporting the endometriotic tissue are suppressed and, although this can have a beneficial effect on pain, it does not improve fertility. By far the best treatment for most forms of endometriosis is surgery. This involves removing the endmetriotic tissue and dividing the scarring, which can improve both the pain as well as significantly improving fertility. There is evidence which demonstrates that, even in situations where there is only moderate disease, the natural conception rate is doubled by removing endometriotic tissue.
